We proudly present one of the rarest Rolling Stones` albums in existence: the massively rare mispressing of the Stones’ 1971 "Hot Rocks (1964-71)" anthology, which includes versions of two songs (Brown Sugar and Wild Horses) TOTALLY different from the known, released, studio versions of the two classics. Except for a few obscure bootlegs, these two versions have NEVER before or after been released to the public.

The versions included here are truly different. It is not just a case of different mixes – these are DIFFERENT TAKES altogether. You will detect a major difference between the official versions and those included here within five seconds from the start of the songs.

This take of "Brown Sugar" has rhythm section pushed all the way into the foreground, to the point where bass and drums are literally in-your-face. Bobby Keyes' famous sax solo in the middle of the song is COMPLETELY MISSING;  Lead guitar solo also appears to be missing; only Keith Richard’s rhythm guitar is there, but Mick Taylor’s fretwork appears to be either missing or is mixed-out beyond detection. Vocal track seems to be the same as the released version.

On "Wild Horses", Mick Taylor’s guitar, notably the intricate soloing by the end of the song, is also  missing; the song appears to be somewhat shorter than the released version; but the single biggest - and most obvious - difference is in Mick Jagger`s vocal track. It is absolutely clear that this is a COMPLETELY different take of the vocal track than the album version; Mick sings in a wonderfully dramatic, passionate, soulful manner – and we feel very strongly that his vocal take on this version is far superior to the one released on regular versions of "Hot Rocks" (the same as the one released on "Sticky Fingers"). His voice here is a cross between Gram Parsons (we initially thought that this was Gram Parsons on vocals!) , Jerry Garcia, and Billie Holiday. The dude really croons his heart out.  Heck, Mick can really belt out with the best of them, when he wants to (which has been less and less in recent years).

Over the years, we`ve heard many apocryphal stories about how this incredible rarity came to being: from this being an attempt by Allen Klein, the then-manager of the Rolling Stones to extract one final bit of studio material before the band established their own label, to the Stones deliberately supplying half-baked takes to Klein,  to the sheer incompetence of the pressing plant.

We asked our good friend, Bruce Eder, a regular contributor to the All Music Guide (www.allmusic.com), about what he thought of this mispressing , and he concurred that this appears to be a simple case of human error: it looks like the pressing plant inadvertently used the test- or demo stamper which should have been discarded. Bruce should know – he was a one-time London/Abkco employee and he worked for Allen Klein for many years.

For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye , Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). ·      CONDITION:

·      THE RECORDS:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, JUST A NOTCH BELOW NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new NOTE: the side 4 with two rare tracks is the best-preserved of the four sides and deserves to be graded EXCELLENT

(b)         The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The records come in their original stock inner sleeves

(d)         The album comes with its original “211 Reasons why The Roling Stones is the world’s greatest Rock’n’Roll band” insert (brochure)

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

COVER IS NEAR MINT,  STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP (SLIGHTLY TORN IN ONE SPOT, BUT NO PART IS MISSING)

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the opening side (BARELY VISIBLE)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
