An increasingly rare and sought after copy of this 1965 UK 1st pressing Stones' classic on the unboxed DECCA label, MONO LK 4733

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  ARL - 6973 - 8B with stampers "4" and "K 11" (not easy to distinguish) at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2   ARL - 6974 - 9A with stampers "1" and "K 11" (not easy to distinguish) at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Note that the "KT" tax code stamper is at 12 o'clock on sides 1 and 2 respectively (indicative of earlier pressings)

The appearance of the vinyl is VG+. This is heavy duty, completely flat vinyl and still retaining much of it's original glossy and jet black lacquered sheen, which in normal daylight shows barely any imperfections. Under a bright light a number of wispy hairlines and very light scuffs come into view but these all appear to be superficial and non-feelable. The exception to this is single small hairline at the beginning of "Heart of Stone" which is just feelable and does result in x7 mild clicks at the beginning of this track.  Still impressive overall quality, however, especially considering this record's 53 year vintage and I would say that this record has had less than it's fair number of plays!

The labels are excellent. No blemishes with all of the iconic silver writing, "ffss" logo, and matt textured maroon background all perfectly intact. Note the deep circular groove on each of the labels and the "K/T" tax code above the matrix number on each label - more indicators of a very early pressing. There are just a few very light spindle trails on each of the labels but apart from that...perfect!

The front side laminated Clout & Baker outer sleeve is very good.  All edges, including the spine, remain rigid and with no scuffing or rubbing at all - remarkable! And the same can be said for the corners, which remain perfectly defined right angles with barely any rubbing. There is some occasional surface laminate creasing on the front side, which I have tried to show in my photos, and which is a little more prevalent towards the opening edge, along the bottom edge, and towards the top left corner : nothing nasty, but it is there and it is noticeable. There are also x11 horizontal 1cm laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side, two of which do impinge upon the spine though all spine text does remain intact and perfectly legible. There is no fraying on the opening edges and the reverse side is excellent apart from some mild but noticeable age discolouration adjacent to each edge. Note the boxed "DECCA" logo in the bottom right corner and the mistaken "965" (it should read "1965") just to the left and above the logo - both are tell tale signs of a very early pressing.  A solid very good.

The quality of the audio is VG+. Nice MONO tone and clarity at all frequency and volume levels and with no distortion either. There are no skips or sticking, and no clicks apart from the aforementioned x7 clicks at the beginning of "Heart of Stone" on side 2. There is just the merest hint of some occasional background crackle during a couple of the interludes and quieter moments but this is very, very mild and not intrusive at all. Each track makes for a great listen!

Comes with original blue text Decca poly lined inner sleeve with no splits, tears or fraying - just some age discolouration and creasing in two of the corners. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a solid VERY GOOD copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1965 UK original MONO pressing classic - a worthy addition to any vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
