UK FIRST PRESSING VINYL LP IN WORKING ZIPPER SLEEVE WITH LYRIC INNER.
We see a lot of CUN A1/B1 pressings offered on eBay as '1st pressings' but they are not, they are late 1970s EMI pressings when the Stones' post-Decca catalogue moved from Atlantic Records to EMI. Later, it would be manufactured and distributed by CBS and Virgin, and none of those are '1st pressings' either. There are two identical UK first pressings, one with A3/B3 matrix and one with A3/B4 matrix, both pressed before the album was released from first generation laquers. There were no earlier matrix numbers than A3/B3 and A3/B4. This album almost immediately topped the UK chart as 'Brown Sugar' had been a massive hit, so a lot of copies were pressed up before the release date of 23 April, 1971. All first pressings of this album must have T.M.L. ROLLING STONES RECORDS hand written in the run-out grooves (TML being The Mastering Lab), later pressings were not pressed there and suffer from a darker, less dymanic and duller, un-exciting sound - only the TML mastered UK, USA and early German pressings are worth owning, to be quite frank. There is a world of difference in the sound-scape once you compare one to any other pressing. It is subtle, but definitive...You know it once you've heard it. The zipper on the sleeve is 'small' and 'square' and the rear sleeve has no writing other than the Stone's tongue logo. The inner credit sheet is on thicker card than later pressings.

SLEEVE: VERY GOOD ONLY DUE TO SHELF AND EDGE WEAR, CREASING AND TEAR IN REAR THREE INCHES LEFT SIDE. ZIPPER VERY GOOD AND WORKS FULLY. SOME CORNER BUMPS AND CREASES. PEN NAME ON INSIDE GREY AREA. INSERT IS VERY GOOD WITH SOME SPOTS AND CREASES.
DISC: VISUALLY A VERY GOOD+ COPY THAT PLAYS MOSTLY EXCELLENT MINUS. ONE LIGHT SCRATCH ON 'BROWN SUGAR' THAT CLICKS A FEW TIMES, LIGHT HAIRLINES AND FINGRENAIL SCUFFS. SOME SPINDLE WEAR. A DECENT BUT NOT PERECT COPY THAT GIVES SPLENDID AUDIO REPRODUCTION AND ONLY MINOR SURFACE NOISES IN THE QUIETEST OF PASSAGES.
