Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have accumulated over a period of more than 45 years or more! This is the earliest possible unofficial released Pressing of  The Rolling Stones "The Trident Mixes" double lp album, single sleeved , very scarce and collectable to find in this tip top condition! The audio quality is absolutely stunning through out this album , in fact probably one of the best that you will find. The vinyls looks and sounds like it has barely ever been played at all in my opinion. (No visable marks or scratches on the playing surfaces that I can see)  (note: Some of the recordings were taken from the original acetates, and allowances must be allowed for static ticks/interference heard on at least one track that I heard, 1st track side three) The overall audio is graded at least excellent plus to very near mint for the most part cristal clear and very, very vibrant through out. There are no needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud annoying constant clicks or pops on this vinyl. The original 1st issue un- laminated cover is also in exceptional condition being stored in a case with the vinyls removed and separated from the cover for protection, . This is how I have always stored my records! Cover is also graded at least better than excellent in my opinion! A very collectable and sought after especially in this condition, rarely surfaces for sale like this!

The Rolling Stones "Trident Mixes" Recorded at Trident Studios late 1969. In late 1969 , while The Beatles were recording "let it be" in abbey road studio in london , The Stones were across town in Trident Studios with Nicky Hopkins breaking in their new guitarist ,Mike Taylor. Their best efforts ; some finished numbers , some instrumental backing tracks and some earlier recordings were preserved on two rare acetates which are available now for the first time on this album. The result is a historical look at where The Stones had been , where they were going and a rare chance to hear them at work in the studio.

The Trident Mixes was originally unofficialy released on K&S records and on Black vinyl, later subsequent issues were on coloured vinyl.

This album was also reissued on LP as Trident Demos 1969 (Chelsea Records 2R-68).

Parts of these recordings appear on The Trident Mixes (Living Legend LLR-CD 039), A Beggars Opera (The Early Years 02-CD-3308), Catfish (Missing In Action), and complete Thee Satanic Sessions (Diablo Music CDDIA002), The Trident Mixes (STONES), and on disc one of Hillside Blues (VGP-214-1).

The Dog N Cat was subsequently copied in The Mick Taylor Years (RSMT BOX CD1-12). It gathers together important alternate takes and outtakes from the very last days of Brian Jones and first couple of years of Mick Taylor’s involvement with the band.

“Jiving Sister Fanny” was recorded on July 2nd, 1969 at Olympic Studio, the day before Brian Jones died.

Two versions with different lyrics were recorded that day. This is the rarer of the two, having appeared on some pressings of Metamorphosis while the second take appears on most pressings of the album and on the London Years.

“I’m Going Down” was initially worked on between April 17th to July 1969 at Olympic Studio and later right before the US tour from October and November, 1969 in Los Angeles. This take, which was also used for Metamorphosis in 1975, dates from July 14th and July 15th, 1970 at Olympic. This track differs from the commercial version by having a false start. This track features Bobby Keys on sax, Rocky Dijon on percussion, Stephen Stills on guitar, and Bill Plummer on upright bass.

“Hamburger To Go” (aka “Give Me A Hamburger To Go” and “Stuck Out Alone”) dates from sessions at Olympic from March and April, 1968 and remains unreleased.

“Downtown Susie” is a Bill Wyman tune recorded on April 23rd, 1969 at Olympic Studio and is the same as the version on Metamorphosis except is shorter at the fade by five seconds.

“Blood Red Wine” was recorded May, 1968 at Olympic Studio. Jagger sings the vocals, Nicky Hopkins plays piano, and no other information is available. It has never been released which is a shame because it is the most intriguing song in this collection.

“Travelin’ Man” is another unreleased song recorded at Olympic in October, 1970. The first version of “Family” dates from May, 1968 in Olympic and it the arrangement with the electric guitar.

The acoustic guitar arrangement which would appear on Metamorphosis would be recorded the following month.

“Still A Fool” was recorded at the same sessions and is a ten minute jam on the Muddy Waters tune. Jagger tries his best to sing like the blues singer too. Six out of the last seven tracks are instrumentals.

“Leather Jacket,” recorded on June 22nd, 1970 at Olympic Studio in London, is a lighthearted and infectious pop instrumental whose sunniness is outside the pale of the Stones.

“Dancing In the Light,” dating from the spring of 1970, is another upbeat instrumental but with some recognizable Stones raunch.

“Potted Shrimp” and “Aladdin Story” come from the same time period as “Leather Jacket” but recorded at Stargroves. “And I Was A Country Boy” comes from the Feb.18-Mar.31 1969 sessions.

“Who Am I?” (aka “See I Love You”) is a true mystery. It is listed on this release as being from Olympic Studio in March to May 1970. Others sources say late 1969 and even others from Jamaica 1972 and still others claim it comes from 1963 because of its simplicity. The best sources say it was recorded on July 14th – 15th, 1970.

The final Trident jam is another mystery. There is no name associated with it and was never used by the band.

The Vinyls

These are the original thicker , heavier chunky slab of vinyls only found like this on the earliest original pressings! Original black wax/vinyls (Better audio quality than the later issued coloured wax in my opinion) (Later press are much more flimsier and less robust)!

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps. The vinyls have retained their original sheen from new in my opinion on initial inspection this looks like it has obviously not been played that much at all in my opinion, I can't see any nasty spider traces on the labels! Very feint spider trails perhapes just a hint of a couple only! On close inspection any marks that could possibly be seen would be very light sleeve removal/scuffs only but importantly no audio sounding marks or needle marks that would cause any loud contant clicks or pops that I heard at all!

The audio quality

I have played and recorded all four sides track for track at very loud volume  prior to listing at very loud volume two times! (You can hear the full recording for your self in the player above. Actual recording from the vinyls) From the moment that the needle hits the playing surface , it is obvious that this vinyl not only visually but audibly has only had very very minimal play only! The audio is stunning cristal clear and vibrant, very bright and clear throughout without any signs of distortion at all and plays with a lovely deep bassey feel only found like this on earliest pressings! (Note: Some of the tracks were mastered from the original acetates and allowances must be made for isolated interference in the form of islolated static /ticks/click/pop noted , especially on one track , first track side three were I heard some static/crackle/ticks in some places, and perhapes the odd pop/static noted here and there, b ut nothing too bad that spoilt the overall enjoyment in my personal opinion. (I would class myself as very critical, please look at my completed listings of simular items that I have sold in the past and you will see that I normally get it right).  I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near as mint for the most part in my opinion! (I don't think that you will find better very rich and vibrant through out)

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for isolated static/ticks only, and not consistent through out the audio as noted above. Please remember that this is a genuine at least 35 year old record that would have originally been played on an at least 35 year old system.

Note: These vinyls would benefit from a constant cleaning before each play because these vinyls have been stored in a case laying dormant for mant years. A constant clean will reduce any static/ticks and enhance the audio quality.

The Labels

These are the original yello K&S labels (see photos)   The labels (All four),  are rich in colour and are very clean , all text is fully readable. It is obvious to me that this vinyl has only had barely been played only by the fact that I find it hard to even see a real spider mark., Perhapes a couple of very fine spider traces can just be seen if looked at an angle to the light only.   The spindle hole is free of any  ware and of course is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeves

These is the original plain white paper record sleeves no splits or tares, Light creasing/yellowing with age only.

The Cover

This Is The Original 1st UK issue Un- laminated cover in absolutely stunning condition through out, concidering this is over 30 years old! Clean and very straight in appearance. No splits or tares.  all text is readable! There is No real nasty rubbing/storage wear on the front Very, very rare! no real nasty creases to report, any ther are, you have to look to notice. . Any indents or marks on this cover you have to look to notice and any rubbing wear is very minimal indeed. (Just light edge creases) The rear is generally bright and white with very feint grubbyness /fading only. Again minor creases or storage wear only. The cover has always been seperated from the vinyl and sleeve since purchased from new! The spine is square all text readable with minor scuffing only. Unbeleivably rare like this! Graded at  least better than excellent in my opinion!
