HEAVYWEIGHT VINTAGE DUB! Here comes the classic ...
Keith Hudson & Family Man - "Pick A Dub"
(Atra Records 1974/75)
LP: EX
Cover / sleeve: EX/VG
EX = Not quite perfect. There may a slight chance of minor deterioration in sound quality. The cover/sleeve may show slight wear; VG = Very Good: The surface and cover/sleeve shows visible signs of wear due to the fact that it has been played on a regular basis. There will be some audible surface noise but it will not effect the listening experience.
"Pick A Dub" is sensational, arguably the crowning achievement of Keith Hudson´s career.
Always an innovator, he was one of the first Jamaican producers to issue a dub album; "Pick A Dub" was a big seller in the reggae market during the winter of 1974-75. It's not difficult to see why; - it features some of the producer's hardest rhythms, played by bassist Aston 'Family Man' Barrett, his late brother, drummer Carlton Barrett (both then with Bob Marley and the Wailers) and members of Soul Syndicate. Included are cuts to hits like Big Youth's S. 90 Skank (Pick A Dub itself), and Hudson's recuts of classic rhythms like Declaration Of Rights (Black Right) and Satta Massagana (Satia) that easily rival the originals for power. "Pick A Dub" focuses uncompromisingly on the bass and drums, the occasional echoed vocals of such as Horace Andy and Hudson himself serving to throw the rhythms into sharp relief.
Once a forgotten obscurity, "Pick A Dub" is - as we know now - one of the most important Dub albums in history.

There exists no complete story of the re-releases of this LP. I bought it in the mid 80s via Irie Records in Germany & I know, that Carlo, owner of Irie Records, bought it from Brent Clarke, owner of the Atra Label. This one is the 1975 Rockers Universite press out of the UK.

Notice: Somebody gave me a tip that it is possible, that the offered LP could be a repress by Atra Records from 1988. Of cause I tried to figure out the history of this special LP before the auction started. Actually I couldn´t find anything about it in the internet. Please keep this in mind.
