Description

This is genuinely rare: This album features the earliest rockabilly material by Roy Orbison. Entitled Roy Orbison At The Rock House,it was released in mono on Sun 1260 in 1961. It is considered to be one of the elite rockabilly LPs of all time. It is the first album by Roy Orbison and released at a time when Orbison had already moved to the Monument label but had not yet put out an album. Sun Records owner Sam Phillips had a collection of songs Orbison had recorded at Sun between 1956 and 1958. Phillips capitalised on the national recognition Orbison had achieved at Monument through three major hit singles in 1960 and 1961 that had gone to the top of the Billboard charts. Most of the songs on Roy Orbison at the Rock House were written by Phillips, and are in the traditional rockabilly style the Sun label was known for. Notable exceptions are compositions by other Sun artists Harold Jenkins (better known as "Conway Twitty") and Johnny Cash.

Vinyl is on the original fifties Sun label and grades at VG or better overall. Side One is close to VG+ - good gloss, some light scratches and plenty of hairlines, plays well; Side Two is VG-, mostly due to a bunch of small scratches on track 3, other wise a lot of light marks and hairlines. Like most fifties LPs it plays well despite not being in mint shape. Cover is VG++ - some corner wear, a little laminate peel, a small piece of tape on the back and a little ageing on the back but it really is in lovely condition. For a 49 year-old record it's in very good condition. Original Sun label.
