In 1965, four completely unknown women from Baltimore, MD, called the Royalettes took the country by storm with their smash "It's Gonna Take a Miracle," a Teddy Randazzo-penned soul/doo wop number that Laura Nyro would cover a few years later. In those days, the single was everything; albums were created around one or two singles to resell the same material and to develop the artists. But there were exceptions. This debut album by the Royalettes is the exception to that rule. Conceived, produced, and arranged by Randazzo, It's Gonna Take a Miracle is a masterpiece of the wall of sound school of production, with deep nods to the Bacharach-David school of arrangement and songwriting. Randazzo could write with the best of them; no less than eight of the tracks here bear at least his partial signature. The other four, such wonders as Michel Legrand's "Watch What Happens" and Barbara Mason's "When I'm Ready" among them, are all stellar pieces of the puzzle Randazzo and the Royalettes put together. With their silky smooth sound and raw emotional delivery featured atop swirling strings, muted brass and reeds, and shimmering percussions -- dig the tubas and glockenspiel on "Watch What Happens," with the swooping chorus and dynamically restrained lead vocal -- they were truly was literally lifted by Bacharach for "Goin' Out of My Head." Along with that wondrous title track we get another minor hit with "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" and ten others from that original album. This is a classic album of smooth and sweet East Coast soul that sounds like a collision of the Dionne Warwick-styled West Coast silk and New York raw, wall of sound instrumentation. A enduring if little-known classic.
(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY THOM JUREK, ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/)
Easily one of three or four finest and most refined girl-groups of the sixties, Royalettes specialized in delicate, Bacharach-David-styled sweet soul, and will forever remain the single greatest exponent of the genre. This, first of only two albums they ever recorded - includes two of their biggest hits: I want to meet him - and the gorgeous, glorious title track, later so capably covered by late, great Laura Nyro and the Labelles (Laura Nyro named her 1975 album after the title track). Track listing: It's gonna take a miracle - Poor Boy - Watch what happens - You bring me down - Yes,I'm ready - Don't you cry - I want to meet him - Out of sight, out of mind - How can you face me - Only when you're lonely - He's gone - Never again

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID)
(b) The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.
(c) The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- The cover has a distinct X-shaped, pressure-type cutout stamp. This type of cutout marking was used exclusively by MGM and Verve labels and was more discreet and sensitive than the other types of marking (such as cutout holes or drill marks), as it did not require the cover to be damaged.
- Cover has one corner slightly worn / dinged / bent.
- Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners. (nothing significant)
- Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams
- No ring wear
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
- No writing
- No peel-off marks
- No stains
- No mold or mildew spots
