Bell Records  BELL- 6047,  1970 Original Issue 1st Pressing Stereo

( run-off matrix #:  bell-6047-s1   and   bell-6047-s2 )

 

In 1970, the nucleus of another group "Hungry Wolf" (who cut there now sought-after eponymous album for Philips) also recorded as Rumplestiltskin.   But probably due to contractual reasons the band used pseudonyms:  Lead singer Peter Charles Greene (Peter Lee Stirling),  bass-player Jackson Primrose (Herbie Flowers), keyboarder Jeremy Eagles (Alan Hawkshaw), guitarist Andrew Balmain (Alan Parker) and drummer Rupert Baer (Clem Cattini).

(*without Stirling, they also simultaneously recorded as Ugly Custard and Blue Mink, releasing a couple of other killer LP's)

“Rumplestiltskin” is an absolute monster of an album…..heavy blues rock & hard prog filled with highlights (for fans of Ashkan, Black Cat Bones & Leafhound meets Warhorse & Toe Fat).    

Big chunks of guitar with monster hooks, basslines that shake the ground and slabs of hot, hot Hammond organ with a commanding soulful voice soaring through it all unscathed.  Really solid unique meaty tracks !
