Description

One of the things this GREAT Weekly pop music countdown show, Countdown America Starring Dick Clark,   that most distinguished it was the name Dick Clark.  Attach that name to any syndicated show and you will have millions of listeners.  Dick is known for his expertise in rock music, having been in on the ground floor of rock and roll, and his style is unmatched.  Even now millions tune in just to see HIM on New Year's Eve - not to put down Ryan Seacrest, but Dick IS New Year's Eve and always will be.  Now, this show follows his earliest ventures into pop music survey shows, Dick Clark's National Music Survey,  and goes all the way back to 1988.  It was a FOUR hour Top  30 Countdown on four BEAUTIFUL stereo virgin vinyl rcords that look like the day they were pressed.  This baby was played once and once only, the day it was aired.  The records themselves are very attractive with  Countdown America Starring Dick Clark logo across the top of the label, the United Stations logo on the bottom along with the show number and side number.    The cue sheets are unmarked and look like new.  They are printed on good paper and have stood the test of time.  The entire four stereo lp show is housed in a very attractive album in very good shape with the Countdown America logo across the whole album along with a picture of Dick Clark himself.  The Show Number and date is in the upper right corner and the United Stations logo  is on the bottom.        The entire show was syndicated on the United Stations Network to which Dick moved after the expiration of his contract with Mutual.  His previous show on Mutual, the National Music Survey continued on for a few years without Dick and also did well.    This is truly a vintage and special show and belongs in your collection.  In addition, to the top 30, Dick  had many interviews, flashback songs from previous years,  showcase artists,   and more.  The national commercials are included on this show and believe me, from 21 years ago, they are fun to hear again.  We have come a long way, baby!   Not convinced yet?     Well, this listing is for SIX of these great shows.  People ask me why I sell in bigger lots like this when if I listed each show individually it would bring in more because of multiple bidders.  Well, I want to give my collector friends a chance to get a larger group of these shows at the price for one of them at the opening bid.  It is another thing I like to do to help us all increase our collections.        The dates of these shows are as follows:    show #241 from June 9, 1990,        Show #239 from May 25, 1990,                       show #260 from October 19, 1990;          show #252 from August 24, 1990,          show #243 from June 23, 1990,      and show #  264 from November 16, 1990.                            There were many interviews  spread throughout the show and most often with the spotlight artist.  There was also a spotlight year that Dick looked at that was from one to ten years prior to the date of the particular show.   The showcase artist on the show that I will list as an example is  from  June 9, 1990 and was show #241.  The featured artist was Elton John and the year feature was 1982. So, let's review class!  You get the top 30 of the week.  You get a Showcase Artist, and  the Top 9 Songs from the Featured Year in the past.      Can't beat it, right????             OK?  Here is we go, the Top 30 for the week of  June 9, 1990 along with all the extras and presented by the Doctor of Rock, Dick Clark!                                              First from the featured artist , Elton John,    you will hear,                            Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me,                                    Mama Can't Buy You Love,                               Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,                                 Philadelphia Freedom,      and                          Club At The End of The Street.                                Then you will hear from the top 10 from  June 9, 1982 with these great tunes,                                                           Run For The Roses - Dan Fogelberg,                                       Making Love - Roberta Flack,                                                 I Don't Know Where To Start - Eddie Babbitt,                                      Be Mine Tonight - Neil Diamond,                                                       Personally - Karla Bonoff,                                When He Shines - Sheena Easton,                                      Always On My Mind - Willie Nelson,                                         Love's Been a Little Bit Hard On Me - Juice Newton,                                              and                       Any Day Now - Ronnie Milsap.                                  Then you will hear the Top The Top 30 from June 9, 1990,                                                           I Don't Have The Heart - James Ingram,                              I'll Be Your Shelter - Taylor Dayne,                                          Same Old Love - Smokey Robinson,                                     Vision of Love - Mariah Carey,                                              This and That - Michael Penn,                                         Crying In The Chapel - Peter Blakely,                                             The Heart of the Matter - Don Henley,                                           Vogue - Madonna,                                      Cuts Both Ways - Gloria Estefan,                                           Ready or Not - After 7,                                            Driving - Everything But The Girl,                                            I Wanna Be Rich - Calloway,                                         Nothing Compares To You - Sinead O Connor,                                                     This Old Heart Of Mine - Rod Stewart and Ronald Isley,                                                    Take It To Heart - Michael McDonald,                                          When I'm Back On My Feet Again - Michael Bolton,                                                        Baby It's Tonight - Jude Cole,                                          The Downeaster Alexa - Bill Joel,                                      Dare To Fall In Love - Brent Bourgeois,                                              Through The Test of Time - Patti Austin,                                       Put It There - Paul McCartney,                                      Chirldren of the Night - Richard Marx,                                          Your Baby Never Looked Good In Blue - Expose.                                   Hold On - Wilson Phillips,                                     All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You - Heart,                                    When Something Is Wrong With My Baby - Ronstadt/Neville,                                      Save Me - Fleetwood Mac,                              It Must Have Been Love - Roxette,                           and                           Do You Remember - Phil Collins.                You just cannot beat it.  And remember that lp's have far more audio fidelity and  quality than do CD's.  Especially, when the shows are in such pristine quality.  You really need this show in your collection.            You have a unique opportunity to get some of the best shows ever made.   All the  artists featured in this series helped define rock music through their work.  You will hear not only great tunes. but also interviews and stories about the artists  and their music that you have never heard before.  .  The soundtrack of our lives were shaped by this music and  you will reminisce thinking of those people, events and where you were in your life.    The stereo lp version of this show was only sent to the top 175 Metro markets. Smaller markets had to take the satellite feed.  So at the very most there were only 175 copies of each show ever.  How many survived as did the ones I have is anyone's guess.  but you can own one of them!!!              Remember, when you buy this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary on the artists and songs that only  Dick Clark  can provide.  Also, keep in mind that this and all the oldies shows  I offer to you are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere.  It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining.  As well, it is a piece of radio history.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price; in fact, believe it or not, I paid a lot more than you will because I tried to get the entire collection of this syndicated show.  I almost made it but then the sources dried up.  The dj from whom I bought the ones I had left the station,  and subsequent ones I bought were hit or miss in terms of what I had or did not have.  I finally gave up.  I am saving those shows I treasure the most and sharing the rest with you for very reasonable prices.  Those I do not sell, I will just keep!  Most people even enjoy the national commercials that are included on the show because some 25-30 years later they sound good!                                       Included on this show are                             Marriott,                        Lipton,              Keep It In Your Sneaker,                      Ford,                 Wrigley,                           Volkswagen,        and more.      As you can see, only the Best National Advertisers, paid their money to advertise on this show.                     In fact, some people buy the shows for the commercials  they collect!                 Either way, it is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection.  As always, I charge only shipping on the first show you buy for U.S. buyers and discount the shipping for my international friends,  so the more you buy the more money you will save.  Good Luck and God Bless You.
