Description

Put together  Great Music, the music of  the 60's and 70's with a smattering of 50's and  in a unique radio show format and what do you have?  True Americana at your fingertips.   These  are the wonderful shows that you listened to all weekend.  The syndicated shows stations to air when their regular dj's were off on the weekend.  And they were always better than what you heard during the week!  That's because these were the best dj's in the country.  The Best of the Best.  La creme de la creme!  Dick Clark, Dick Bartley, Casey Kasem, Rick Dees, Machine Gun Kelly,  Mike Harvey, The Real Don Steele,  Mr. Music Norm N Nite,  Cousin Brucie           the list goes on and on.  The legends of American radio playing the legends of rock and roll.  These hours were priceless.  We gathered with our friends to hear them.  They blared out our car windows as we went to Shoneys or Bob's Big Boy, or Hot Shoppes or Tops Drive In or Roy Rogers or Dairy Queen. or whatever our local hang out was called.    And, slowly sadly, they disappeared as times changed, tastes changed.  Radio became homogonized.    Dick Clark is still with us but struggling with his health.  Dick Bartley  and Mike Harvey now play 80's and even 90's.  The old songs, the greatest of the great,  The songs that defined rock and roll from its roots in the 50's through the mid 70's quickly are disappearing along with the dj's that played them, made them famous,  and entertained us.  But, with your own radio show, your own hour of rock and roll history,  you have forever those golden days.  Most people don't even know that shows like this exist.  It is not something you will find in your local record store and certainly not your big chain store.  But, you CAN get them here!      One of the things this oldies radio show series did best was its specialty theme shows.  Billing itself as the "Pop Music Almanac", Solid Gold Scrapbook prided itself in being the definitive oldies show on the radio.  For a hour each day, five hours a week,  for over 8 years, show hosts brought the best of music, interviews and information.  This show is a great example.  Called "Memphis Soul"   the show brings you the most that you could ever hope for.  Just think, on a one hour show you will hear 17 classic tunes ALL PERFORMED BY ARTISTS WHO CALLED MEMPHIS THEIR HOME TOWN.  THIS SHOW IS ESPECIALLY UNIQUE BECAUSE IT GROUPS THE ARTISTS INTO SETS.  YOU WILL HEAR 12 MINUTES OF SAM AND DAVE SONGS, 12 MINUTES OF BOX TOPS SONGS, 10 MINUTES OF BOOKER T AND THE MG'S SONGS, 8 MINUTES OF WILSON PICKETT SONGS AND THEN A SET WITH EDDIE FLOYD AND KING CURTIS.  GIVE ME A BREAK!  HOW CAN YOU BEAT THAT.  THE BEST OF MEMPHIS ROCK ALL IN ONE GREAT HOUR OF MUSIC AND INTERVIEWS.    THIS IS A CLASSIC SHOW FROM THE CLASSIC SERIES!!!        This show is PURE GOLD!!!!!                   It is an hour you will never forget and it is yours to hear over and over again.   WOW!!!!       It is a genuine MUST for your collection and you will love it!   Part of the joy of this series is that every show is like taking a class on the theme and you will be guaranteed of an "A" at the end!       It is a great variety of music along with interviews and fun facts.    How can you beat that!!!!!!   You will super great tunes and the best part is that you can hear them again and again, over and over,  whenever you want.  Over and over and over and over again, to quote a famous lyric!   It is the best theme for an oldies show ever made and Dick Bartley and his crew were masters at it.   Whether through him when he hosted the show or through his dj’s who came after him, you will enjoy the great production values of this series from beginning to end through over 1000 different shows over 7 years.     You enjoy their expertise on this show and every show made through their devotion to the best music of all time.        This is one great hour in music and the best of all, it is vinyl and virgin vinyl at that  probably played only the day it aired.  After that the stations were to destroy them or return them to United Stations.  Well, believe it or not, these shows all came from the United Stations executive to whom they were sent back.  And, guess what, he did not destroy them but indexed them by date and stored them for all these years until he decided to sell and I got them.   I have almost the whole collection and I am selling most of them to finance my son’s college education now that all my  retirement funds have tanked out.  You have a unique opportunity to get some of the best shows ever made.   When I bought the vast majority of my shows, I paid upwards of $15 for EACH SHOW and felt lucky to get them for that price.  YOu can have them for a significant discount from that even if you do the buy it now.  This series is the best oldies that ever aired on American radio.  You will just not hear most of these songs on any other show.  All the  artists featured in this series helped define rock music through their work  You will hear not only great tunes. but also interviews and stories about the artists  and their music that you have never heard before.  Great tunes will all come your way in this great one hour show with the unique themes that made the show the most popular oldies show ever to be on syndication.  The soundtrack of our lives were shaped by this music and  you will reminisce thinking of those people, events and where you were in your life.  This is all featured on this great hour of  music, commentary, stories and interviews.     This theme and all the themes on this great show were amazingly well done and have never been equaled.  Even Dick Bartley's update of this show, American Gold, does not have the huge variety of themes that this series had.    It was something only Solid Gold Scrapbook did and these shows are masterpieces. They belong in your collection!       The one hour show is on one stereo lp album and aired on the United Stations Radio Network on JULY 30, 1987.    The lp is in excellent, new, pristine   condition. It is a quite attractive lp considering it was supposed to be played once and destroyed.  It has a cream background label with Solid Gold Scrapbook logo across the top and on the bottom of the label the United Stations logo, in brown.  It is a very attractive label.  Also on the lp is the  date of the show. The cue sheet comes with this show and is also in excellent condition.  The show was only played once, the day it aired, to the best of my knowledge since they were sent back to the distributor after airing.   In fact it may not have been played at all since many stations received two copies and only played one.   They had to be certified to United Stations that they were destroyed after airing or sent back to United Stations, so these shows are all very rare.  I recently found out that they are even rarer than I thought.  The stereo lp version of the show was only sent to the top 175 Metro markets. Smaller markets had to take the satellite feed.  So at the very most there were only 175 copies of each show EVER.   How do you compute rareness.  175 copies for the whole United States market and 23 years ago means that there might not be ANY more of these shows and at the very most there are 175 .       How many survived as did the ones I have is anyone's guess.  This show was hosted by the ORIGINATOR OF THIS SEMINAL SHOW, DICK BARTLEY in his early pre-American Gold days.        Dick Bartley was the originator of the whole series and its host for most of the seven years it was in syndication.   There were two other hosts in the series, Mr. Music, Norm N. Nite who was one of the major influences in the origination of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a long time dj at WCBS-FM in New York before it flipped to "Jack" music a couple of years ago (it's now back and bigger than before but without Mr. Music),  and, for the last two years of the show, Dave Charity.  All were great dj's in the style of the dj's we were used to hearing and who you don't hear anymore especially if you do not have an oldies station anymore as most of you do not as the oldies demographic becomes less and less in favor with money grubbing station owners.     Please note that you will see these shows bunched in weekly groups and sold that way.  However, in that case you have to buy all five shows that aired that week just to get the one you want.  For almost 10 years I have sold them individually to collectors so that they can get the music they want and only the music they want.  In fact, any of you who had to buy the weekly box to get the show you wanted, I will buy the unwanted shows from you for the prorated price per show and make them available to other collectors who might want them.  There is nothing worse than a record you don't need or want.  When you buy only the show you want, you and I are both happy!       This show features 17 tunes from the great city of Memphis rockin its way to you with soulful songs  along with  FIVE interviews - three with Sam Moore of Sam and Dave and two with Steve  Cropper of Booker T and the MG's and  all presented in the Solid Gold Scrapbook unique way and on stereo lp which provides a much better quality sound than CD's.                                   Here are your tunes!                                              Hold On I'm Coming,                                You Don't Know Like I Know,                           Soul Man,                     and                    I Thank You - Sam and Dave,                          The Letter,                     Cry Like a Baby,                          Sweet Cream Ladies,                            and Soul Deep - The Box Tops,                      Soul Finger - Bar-Kays,                          Hip Hug Her                     Green Onions,                and              Time Is Tight - Booker T and the MG's,                     Mustang Sally,                        In The Midnight Hour,           and               Funky Broadway - Wilson Pickett,                            Knock On Wood - Eddie Floyd,                     and                              Memphis Soul Stew - King Curtis.                                            WOW!!!  What a great  show!!!                Remember, when you buy this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary on the artists and songs that only Dick Bartley and the gang can provide.  Also, keep in mind that this and all the oldies shows are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere.  It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining.  As well, it is a piece of radio history.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price; in fact, believe it or not, I paid a lot more than you will because I tried to get the entire collection of this syndicated show.  I almost made it but then the sources dried up.  The dj from whom I bought the ones I had left the station,  and subsequent ones I bought were hit or miss in terms of what I had or did not have.  I finally gave up.  I am saving those shows I treasure the most and sharing the rest with you for very reasonable prices.  Those I do not sell, I will just keep!  Most people even enjoy the national commercials that are included       General Motors Auto Parts,      Trident Gum,      Seagram's Wine Cooler,    Wrigley Spearmint,     Michelob Beer,                      and more.  You can see by these commercials that the show attracted a great demographic as all these commercials are for fun products.      Some people buy the shows for the commercials  they collect!  Either way, it is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection.  As always, I charge only shipping on the first show you buy for U.S. buyers and discount the shipping for my international friends,  so the more you buy the more money you will save.  Good Luck and God Bless You.
