  For sale is by far my favourite Paul McCartney album. (Next favourite - Band on the Run - a distant second) I have had this album in my slowly diminishing collection for more than 40 years. (But I don't think that I purchased it new) It has regularly been on my quality turntable over the years, with a lightweight stylus and modest tracking force. It's a gatefold 1st UK pressing Cat. No. PAS 10003. (See discogs.com website). This is a 5 star allmusic.com album.
I have been listening to records intently with headphones on for the last couple of months as I sell off my collection. This record puzzled me somewhat, in that it has a number of fingerprints and surface scratches. My experience has been that what I saw visually on this record would be translated into some noticeable auditory defects. However, I have had a close listen, and was unable to detect any flaws except for one pop right at the end of the last track on side 1. So, visually I thought to grade it VG on the Goldmine rating scale, but after hearing the record, I think it fairly matches the criteria as VG+. The label is clean, with only very minor spindle mark effects. 
The cover is in excellent condition. If has only very miniscule defects, and would rate at least a VG+.
One can always squabble over differences of opinion with grading, but I think that this passes the listening test, and should appeal to all but those wanting a pristine collectable copy.
Records are sent in a double layer of rigid cardboard with the vinyl external to the cover to minimise the risk of compression damage. A used external plastic record cover is included.
