Description
This 1922 Black Swan 78 features a song sung by George Jones, Jr. called So Long Bert, a tribute song to Bert Williams written shortly after his death in 1922. Seeing as how Bert Williams was a pioneering black recording artist and vaudeville star it's only appropriate that this song be recorded on the first record label created specifically to feature black recording artists of the time. Black Swan Records was a United States record label founded in 1921 in Harlem, New York. It was the first widely distributed label to be owned and operated by, and marketed to, African Americans. (Broome Special Phonograph Records was the first to be owned and operated by African Americans). The B side features a song called Night And You. This side has two chips on opposite sides of the edge which reach about 5 - 10 grooves into the song. Otherwise it's in VG+ condition as is the Bert side which is in excellent playing condition (no chips). The record plays with little background noise except for some light hiss and it has lots of sheen left. Buyer will include $5 for shipping.
