Description
For sale is the RARE copy of the UNCENSORED original version of MC5, Kick Out The Jams, Released in 1969, on Elektra records. Recorded live at Russ Gibb's Grande Ballroom, Detroit, Oct. 30-31, 1968.
This is the original UNCENSORED 1st issue gate-fold & LP, with red label and uncensored gate-fold liner notes.
It was only available for a few weeks after its initial release and then was pulled from store shelves for being to vulgar with the use of "mother fu*kers" and "fu*k". It was replaced with two altered versions. This copy has the John Sinclair (White Panthers Minister) monologue written on the inner gate-fold which was censored, banned & removed a few weeks after the release of the record due to public pressure.
It includes the vinyl LP with the uncensored vulgar language at the beginning of the title track on the live recording which was also removed in a follow up release. This 'original'- uncensored LP contains the words "Kick out the Jams Mother Fu*kers" as the intro to the title song "Kick out the jams". It aired on FM radio stations in Detroit (and elsewhere) for a short time until the Government demanded a non-vulger version play on the air-ways.
You would be hard-pressed to find another uncensored version in this shape, it plays through great.

Release
While "Ramblin' Rose" and "Motor City Is Burning" open with inflammatory rhetoric, it was the opening line to the title track that stirred up controversy. Vocalist Rob Tyner shouted, "And right now... right now... right now it's time to... kick out the jams, mother*&^%ers!" before the opening riffs. Elektra Records executives were offended by the line and had preferred to edit it out of the album (replacing the offending words with "brothers and sisters"), while the band and manager John Sinclair adamantly opposed this.[citation needed]
The original release had "kick out the jams, Mother*&^%ers!" printed on the inside album cover, but was soon pulled from stores. Two versions were then released, both with censored album covers, with the uncensored audio version sold behind record counters.
Making matters worse, Hudson's department stores refused to carry the album. Tensions between the band and the Hudson's chain escalated to the point that the department stores refused to carry any album from the Elektra label after MC5 took out a full-page ad that, according to Danny Fields, "was just a picture of Rob Tyner, and the only copy was 'Fu^% Hudson's.' And it had the Elektra logo".[2] To end the conflict and to avoid further financial loss, Elektra dropped MC5 from their record label. Ironically, band members later alleged that Elektra official Jac Holzman encouraged the use of the epithet on the record itself.[citation needed]
The cover / gate-fold is in VG+ condition. Slight wear on edges and corners and slight record ring. Binder is completely legible with some minor wear on edges. The original sleeve is in good shape, although it has folds (see photo). There is some barely-negligible moisture damage on the outer edges of corners, with no photo or monologue damage to the interior of the gate-fold (see photo, its hard to find) otherwise interior seems almost new.
