Rare 1932 12-inch Columbia - New Special Series  Columbia 56000-D ... Recorded May 18, 1932
"Ted Lewis Presents a Miniature Dance Program"  (mx. 260000) Announcer presents selections like a Radio Presentation ... "Dinah" and "That Lonesome Road"
"Kate Smith Presents A Memory Program". (mx. 260001) Kate announces, sounding just like a short Kate Smith radio program... Kate sings "Old Folks At Home", "Grandfather's Clock", Seeing Nellie Home" ...
This was a VERY short-lived new type of record to spur sales during the worst Depression-era period for record sales... Like "Five Minute Records" and / or Multi-Track Records, Columbia was trying whatever they could to spur sales. This series had only one single release,,, This one ! The series planned to also include a "Program" featuring Legendary Minstrel Eddie Leonard.. but that was never released. I imagine the tiny sales of this issue caused Columbia to scuttle any additional releases in this series.
This special recording was Kate's last for Columbia... leaving for Brunswick, then Victor... The Ted Lewis selections were dubbed from previously recorded releases, with added announcer
