Check out my other auctions this week for several interesting acetates! These acetates came from the estate of a gentleman who worked for Wally Heider studios and did sound work for the Jefferson Airplane. This acetate is entitled “Dave Crosby Demo – Mono.” It’s a 12 inch one-sided disk that plays for about 20 minutes. It’s David Crosby by himself, singing and playing the guitar. I believe it dates from around the 1967-1968 “Notorious Byrd Brothers” era. The songs here that are more or less in “finished” demo form are “Games” and “Triad”. Other songs are less formed, and Crosby more or less hums out possible melody lines. “Triad” was rejected by the Byrds due to its subject material… because, well, it’s about a threesome. So Crosby gave the song to the Jefferson Airplane, which probably explains why this acetate appears in the collection. It appeared on the 1968 “Crown of Creation” LP. This is conjecture on my part, but perhaps this disk was used by the Airplane to learn the song. There’s also an early version of “Wooden Ships”. The acetate plays well, a small amount of pops at the beginning before the music starts due to some scratches that are mostly in the trail-on. Aside from this, the disk is in the VG+ range.
