Year: 1980
Label: House Of Yaqub
Format: 12" 33rpm vinyl lp
Artist: Malik Yaqub
Title/Songs: Yaqub Speaks
Condition: Jacket VG+ to NM, disc ranges from VG to NM, disc is actually pretty clean overall but there is a long cross scuff on side a which makes some light pops through much of the first track - still quite listenable with no skips...the music is quite loud and clear over any ticks. On the flip are a few smaller similar scratches that aren't very noticable. All in all a decent play copy.
Comments: Original US pressing in gatefold sleeve. Tough to find indie release out of San Francisco, CA. A rare and amazing album of Islamic jazz album that seldom turns up. Engaging egypto/afro/spritual tenor leads with a very competent group and B3? organ featured on a couple of tracks. One tune even features a woman moaning in ectasy over a piano solo. "It is the projected goal of the House of Yaqub to construct a world wide GERONTOLOGICAL, GYNECOLOGICAL, MUSICOLOGICAL CENTER, exclusively female. for the uniques purpose of adhering to the sciences governing spiritual advancement, that exponentiate by way of the womb, furtherto, near OPHIR." No reserve. Lots of cool records this week, please check my other vinyl auctions.
