Description
Very early Hank Williams recording with “His Drifting Cowboys” before he signed with MGM. There is a Wikipedia page for the song "Honky Tonkin'" Here are some interesting facts:
- For Sterling Records, It is actually the B-side, with "Pan American" as the A-side.
- It was recorded February 13, 1947 at his second and final recording session for Sterling Records.
- He only recorded four songs, two singles, for Sterling.
- He was signed to MGM records in April 1947 and re-recorded "Honky Tonkin'" in November 1947.
***********************************************************
According to Colin Escott's biography of Hank Williams: To avoid confusion between the Sterling and MGM versions, producer Fred Rose bought all the Sterling singles of "Honky Tonkin'" on May 17, 1947 for $2,000 and then sold them to MGM.
Please note that the hole is slightly off-center so the tonearm will oscillate back and forth a bit. Depending on the tonearm, it may or may not track correctly on the outer grooves. It is of course a 78 RPM record. There are some minor scratches from use.
There is also a very small chip on the edge (see photo #6 with my finger pointing to it)
