Description

*Rare* Black Sabbath S/T Vinyl LP Vertigo Phillips Record UK 1st Press EX/VG

Very rare original 1st UK pressing of the genre spawning classic debut album by Black Sabbath.

Very hard to find original 1st pressing with “A Phillips Record Product” text at 6 o’clock on B Side Label.

Matrix numbers are:

Side 1 - V0 6 1Y * 1 420 12 8

Side 2 - V0 6 2Y * 1 420 12 3

Vinyl is EX grade overall. Vinyl appears glossy and shiny. Spindle hole is in great condition and this has been very lightly played only. It does has fine hairline sleeve removal marks when viewed under strong light and a couple of non feelable scratches. It is fully play tested and plays great with no major deterioration in sound. Only audible defects I could hear were 4 soft clicks near the start of “Black Sabbath” and one soft click at the very start of NIB. There was a couple of 1 to 2 second areas with very light background crackle in a couple of places only. Really hard to discern these and 99.9% of the record plays without any audible background noise at all. There are no sticks or jumps, loud clicks, pops or other background noise except for those mentioned above which are genuinely very very minimal. The run ins and spaces between tracks are quiet too!

The original matt gatefold sleeve has light edge and corner wear as shown in the photos. Spine is worn. No rips or tears. It has a small section on the back and front that has previously had a small name erased with tip-ex. Has the misspelled “Ossie” on inside of gatefold in capitals, but is the 2nd version of the sleeve without the erroneous “copyright exists in all Stereo Recordings”. It grades as VG

Comes complete with original Vertigo “swirl” inner bag which has some light age related discolouration and catalogue name/number written in corner. No rips or tears - see photos.

I’ve included a brand new poly lined inner too!

Overall this is a really really decent original 1st press playing copy in a fairly tidy original 2nd variant sleeve. This is the 4th Philips pressing of this LP I have had in my possession and two of these had the capitalised corrected error on the sleeve. It is my opinion that some of the 1st pressings were issued at the time of release with the second variant sleeve.
