Description

This is an extremely rare box set of 6 LPs of material conducted by Bruno Walter, (1876-1962) one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century.

This box set was produced in 1977 by the Bruno Walter Society of Japan in a limited edition with a special bi-lingual Japanese-English booklet (Catalogue No. OS-7021→6-BS).

The 6 LPs are in near mint condition. The set covers the work of Mozart, Mahler, R. Strauss, Wagner, and Brahms amongst others. The original recordings were made in 1955 & 1956 with Walter conducting the French National Radio Orchestra.

The box and booklet are in very good condition with a slight tearing along one edge on the back of the box.

Walter's early years were spent in Germany, where his successes in provincial theatres led to positions at the Berlin State Opera and the Vienna State Opera. He then had a decade-long term as Bavarian music director and began a romantic involvement with the soprano Delia Reinhardt. He was ousted from Germany when the Nazi Party came to power in 1933 and went to Vienna, where he was artistic director of the Opera House until he was again forced out by the Nazis. He went on to build a post-war career in the United States, where he led the New York Philharmonic and other orchestras and in his last years made numerous recordings with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble created especially for him.

5. Refund policy – I will accept refunds if contacted within 7 days of receipt of item, stating why the item is to be refunded. If the item to be refunded is not faulty in any way, then the auction price is all that will be refunded. If there has been an error on listing then the auction price and postage will be refunded.
