Description
Rare find. From the early 1960's and the estate of a college professor, this COMPLETE 5 volume set titled "Living Shakespeare" contains a total of 26 of Shakespeare's classic works narrated on LP records and accompanied by booklets with the entire script for the title. This is the original/first edition. The voices on the records are the stars of the 60's: Peter Finch, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Burton, etc.
Published from 1961-1964, you get 5 heavy duty maroon vinyl covered cardboard boxes with flip tops. All have "Living Shakespeare" on very large gold title plates on box front. 4 of the boxes contain 5 LP's and 5 booklets. One box has 6 LP's and 6 booklets. All are in color matching sleeves, the booklet color matches the LP sleeve color.
These classics are all in VG to New condition. A visual review of the records show them to have little use, if any. Almost all of the booklets are mint. Some of the record jackets have a slight 1-2" straight rip in the seam from the record edge pressing against them for 50 years. The heavy duty maroon boxes show shelf wear with the maroon vinyl on their edges. Does not detract from the overall package.
Don't be fooled, I found several listing that claimed their 4 box set was complete. NOPE. This is the complete works, 5 boxes, 26 LP records and 26 booklets.
Here's what you get: Box 1: Love's Labor Lost; The Comedy of Errors; The Winter's Tale; CorioLanus; Trolius and Cressida. (Box missing the content applique on one side)
Box 2: Hamlet; Macbeth; Othello; Antony and Cleopatra; King Lear (this one has a couple of pages with minor tip crease)
Box 3: Merchant of Venice; Richard II; Romeo and Juliet; Measure for Measure
Box 4: Taming of the Shrew; As You Like It; Twelfth Night; Midsummer Night's Dream; All's Well that Ends Well
Box 5: The Tempest; Much Ado About Nothing; Julius Caesar; Henry IV-Part 1 and 2 (2 records/booklets); Henry V
