Description
This is a rare Edison Diamond Disc "Advertising Record", matrix 2045, spoken by Harry Humphrey. It extols the qualities of Edison's new Disc Phonograph, the history of it's development, how the artists are chosen for their talent not their name, and how the cabinets are of the finest period styles....yada yada yada. This was recorded in December 1912 but not released until 1913, and was only distributed to Edison dealers. In the first years of production there were very few dealers able to sell the Disc machine, and hence these discs are much rarer than the advertising cylinder.
This copy has a few faults. There are some gray grooves. As the disc is slightly bowed (a high spot on the record) this was probably due to be playing on a machine that wasn’t tracking properly. As such it should probably not be played on a Disc phonograph but only on a modern turntable. The reverse has some lamination cracks but this obviously doesn't affect play. I’ve played it on a turntable and the fault is audible but generally plays through.
