Description
Rare set of transcription discs, there are 5 discs total, the 5th in only shown in the final photograph of the set.
There are various recordings from the Metropolitan Opera and American Opera Festival that were used for broadcast on WOR and WEAF, both New York radio stations. They were recorded in the years between 1939 and 1945... I tried to include photos of as many of the labels as I could, they all list the radio station, opera titles, dates, etc. Bruno Landi was also one of the singers on one of these operas.
I did not listen to the entire set, but did drop the needle on each disc... they all played with some light to moderate crackle, nothing too bad considering the age of these discs. I would grade them all as VG.
There is no information on the 5th disc, it just says "Martinelli" on it, it is a recording similar to the others which was produced for radio broadcast, an announcer comes in at the beginning.
