COMMENTS
Here is a perfect, original, very early Mountain label edition, UK copy of Nazareth's LP Loud 'N' Proud, which was issued on 'Mountain' between 1975 and 1980. This was the 4th LP for this Scottish hard rock outfit and it was originally issued on Mooncrest in 1973. It does include one UK top twenty hit in THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT, which got to No.11. The song was written by US Folk Queen, Joni Mitchell and interestingly the band include a Bob Dylan song and one from Lowell George in their interpretations on this LP.
For your reference I think the best tracks on the LP include TEENAGE NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, which was written by Lowell George of Little Feat fame. It is an enjoyable interpretation which is hammered out with a great group sung chorus and there is a very fine deep guitar solo that wails, rolls and rings out beautifully. Then I would add FREEWHEELER, with its bluesy beat, deep guitar solos and a really infectious bass riff that runs underneath the whole thing. It closes gorgeously with some great work from lead guitarist Manuel Charlton. The next of my choices would be the hit single THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT, with bouncing, galloping beat charging through Joni's song. Finally and perhaps my favourite choice, is CHILD IN THE SUN, which begins slowly with a very fine, crying slide guitar that holds your full attention. The whole group sing the middle section but it is that guitar line that really gives the song its personality. Then the perfect closure comes with an acapella vocal finish .. wonderful.
