Brenda Jones “Big Mistake” b/w “Super Stroke” (Mercury promo 73482 2-51274, 1974)
Condition: Strong VG (conservatively graded due to a few scuffs that cause light background noise on the song’s very quiet intro – though unfortunately all copies I’ve encountered suffer from the same issue; otherwise plays EX) /// Elusive white label promo copy of this terrific & poignant ’70s Northern soul gem. Despite the song’s downcast lyric the instrumental backing features some lovely “Tighten Up”-style electric keyboard changes. Flipside is a fine mid-tempo funk burner in its own right w/ a tough opening drum & vocal break. Highly recommended. Labels show minor wear. Comes w/ original gray Mercury company sleeve.
