TITLE: Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington
CONDITION:
Jacket: The front cover is a beautiful Mint- w/ a hint of lamination wear and a tiny nick along the opening edge. The back cover has a light partial 1 1/2" x 1/2" tear from a partially removed name sticker at the top left corner which also has a small light stain close by. Also has a tiny light stain at the bottom left corner. The rest of the back cover is very nice w/ just a hint of wear. All the seams are sharp & intact except for a tiny 1/2" split at the top corner of the spine. The rest of the spine is beautiful w/ nice graphics.
Record: I play graded this entire LP. It retains high original gloss w/ a fair amount of light surface scuffs and some light scratches. Side A has a heavier scratch on Track 2 and the beginning of Track 3 that causes background ticks lighter than the music through most of the Track 2 and the beginning of Track 3. The rest of the side plays VG+ w/ light random background surface noise and light random background ticks. Side B plays a little better w/ a little less background surface noise and background ticks. Still has nice sound presence. / VPI cleaned
COMMENTS: Original deep groove white & blue label pressing of this rare LP, Monk's first LP for Riverside. Comes with it's original wax paper inner sleeve which is a bit tattered.

Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey on July 21 & 27, 1955.
