Description
THE 5th CUP A Spirit Explosion
This is a sealed, super rare, original 1974 pressing.
Norman Simon and Gershon Kingsley with Theodore Bikel.
The 5th Cup has been called the Jewish Jesus Christ Superstar.
A modern contemporary Passover Seder.
It teams lyricist Norman Simon, composer Gershon Kingsley,
and folksinger Theodore Bikel to celebrate Passover as a unique musical Rock Opera.
A wildly creative and bold body of work featuring lush orchestral arrangements.
Rock, Jazz, Gospel, Funk, a Musical Collage.
With Electric Moog and Meletron...a very strange and weird record...
A soundscape of truly biblical proportions.
With funky rhythms and fuzz guitar solos it reflects it’s time,
but there's also dark melodies portraying violence and hopelessness
winding their way through the Old Testament.
It seems Simon's lyrics occasionally lean towards babble
and Bikel's performance does fallback on his sense of humor,
but Kingsley is able to steer the majority of the vibe tactfully .
The 5th Cup has been hailed a major accomplishment,
not an easy feat considering it’s weight and gravity.
