Description
Benny Goodman(1909-1986) was an American jazz and swing musician, clarinetist and bandleader. Benny was born in Chicago, the ninth of twelve children of poor immigrants from the Russian Empire. Goodman continued his meteoric rise throughout the late 1930s with his big band. Benny Goodman played on Bessie Smith's last album and on Billie Holiday's first album. I had the great opportunity to meet Benny Goodman at the Poinciana Playhouse in Palm Beach, Florida where he so kindly autographed my record after the concert on December 4, 1978.
