The album book is in Good condition and the records appear to be in good condition, with scratches consistent to age.
The year 1942 saw the first revival of George Gershwin's "folk opera," Porgy and Bess, a production that was far more successful than the original 1935 mounting and helped establish the work as a major artistic achievement. To commemorate this success, New York's Liberty Music Shop record label took pianist Cy Walter and singer Mabel Mercer into a studio and had them record six songs (three piano instrumentals and three Mercer vocal performances) for a three-78 album. Walter is a talented pianist whose work here no doubt would have pleased Gershwin himself, had he lived to hear it, while Mercer gives convincing renditions of some of the show's major female arias, especially "Summertime."
