Description
This is a framed set of the six elements which comprise Fac 86R, The Hacienda Must Be Built model kit produced in a limited edition of 500 by Factory Records in 1990 to be sold in the company’s shop in Manchester’s legendary Affleck’s Palace.
There are five A4 cardboard pieces (four-colour on one side/ plain silver on back) which, when cut out and assembled, create a scale model of the Hacienda (see pics 8 + 9 - these have been taken from the web and are not the pieces in this set).
In addition this includes a frame containing the accompanying blue & white banderole which is inscribed 'Fac 86R The Hacienda Must Be Built’.
The design was originated by Johnson/Panas as the record company’s limited edition Christmas card in 1983.
According to the Factory Records site:
"The original proposal was to make a pop-up Hacienda as that year's Christmas present. A visit to Pollocks Toy shop in London confirmed suspicions that the only company in the world that had the technology to make pop up books was in Chile.
"No good for a quick turn round. A cut-out theatre was obtained from Pollocks and delivered back in Manchester to Trevor Johnson and Tony Panas. They came up with a construction kit that actually works. Do it with care and you get a perfect 3D of the dance floor and back wall with the acoustic paneling designed by Salford University Acoustics Department, and even Salford, sorry, acid corner.”
This rarity makes for a splendid framed set. As the images show, the pieces are all in pristine condition. Some of the frames show minor marks.
