Extremely rare UK folk album which was actually the first LP released on the highly collectable Westwood label. Musically this is typical folk club fare of the time with a lot of trad folk tunes being performed with sparse guitar, mandolin and banjo backing but the flagolet on a few tracks helps to add some atmosphere, overall sound is somewhat similar to the first Crooked Oak LP with a bit of Callinan-Flynn thrown in.
The first album released on this tiny label, I’m told that only 200 copies were made of early Westwood albums which I find it easy to believe. I know from personal experience that when I was putting together my Westwood collection this was one of the most elusive items on the label. It took me several years to find the copy which now sits on my own shelves and this is the only spare copy I’ve ever had.
The sleeve is in excellent condition, the laminated front sleeve shows only a couple of minor lamination creases, otherwise no damage or wear at all, it’s very clean, no writing, no tears, no big creases. As nice as you could hope for really.
The unlaminated rear is again in nice shape, it’s very clean with no tears, no writing, no large creases, the flipback flaps are solid and well stuck down, again about as nice as you could reasonably ask for..
Both top and bottom seams are totally unworn, as is the spine which is clean and has all of the writing clearly readable.
Both labels are very clean and free from any sort of writing or damage..
The record itself is in very nice condition, a very strong NM. It’s beautifully clean and the vinyl has a nice dark lustre. The sound is clean and clear with no noticeable surface noise of any kind at any time, no distortion, no groove wear, no jumping, no sticking, no ticks, clicks or pops, just a nice enjoyable listenable experience.
As already mentioned this is a very hard record to find in any condition, finding a better copy than this will be a real challenge.
