Description
Reels Psychadeliques-Volume 1 / Freak Out Total (Revolution RE-8002) Strong VG+ with a few marks and think VG+ jacket with normal ringwear.
1969 French Canadian improvisational psychedelic project featuring a stellar jam session with Michel Pagliaro, Tony Roman, Denis Lepage and Andy Shorter. Excellent playing copy of this unique period piece. "Freak Out" Total is printed on the back cover.
SUPER RARE Original 1969 first pressing first and only pressing in thick cover...almost NEVER turns up... "TOTAL FREAK-OUT" is the brainstorm of TONY ROMAN who was also behind the underground psych sensation LP Les Malidictus Sound as well as the psych monster OUBA.

Released right before Tony Roman's sought-after and well-known EXPERIENCE 9 album - and trying a decent description of this obscure item seems not that easy. For sure, a reference must be done with monster OUBA album. It’s self-indulgent; basically, it’s a freedom freak-out album in different ways, a mix of fairly East Coast incoherent pure traditional folk titles, very progressive with a monster long fuzz-psych jam on side two...i.e. the FREAKOUT TOTAL... The legendary Ouba album and Reels Psychadeliques volumes 1 and 2 were ALL products of jam sessions with the same basic group of musicians: Michel Pagliaro, Tony Roman, Denis Lepage, and Andy Shorter. We would assume Pagliaro played guitar, Lepage was on keyboards and Shorter played drums. Supposing this means Roman played bass, but that still doesn’t explain who’s playing the screeching violins on all the reels! The Ouba record is freeform weirdness from end to end, sounding like a more primitive version of “Interstellar Overdrive” era Pink Floyd or the more rockist moments of early Can - or like something from the German Krautrock scene ...but it's exactly that lack of discipline, more than anything, that's the recording's genesis. Freak Out Total, as the title alone implies, was an off-the-cuff, in-studio, freak-out jam, a vamp on certain riffs and (especially) rhythms to which the music frequently returns like organizational motifs, rather than anything remotely resembling songs. On top of that, the four culprits (all friends and outstanding instrumentalists but all members of different combos on the Quebec, Montreal rock scene) were admittedly stoned on various illicit substances when the music was set down.
