It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please bear that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have “I’ve Got Your Number” and “Hot Shot” by Dermot(t) Lynch on a useful clean UK BLUE CAT 45 rpm single BS 101.
It was released in the UK in 1968 and is the second ever single on the always-interesting Blue Cat label. (This label is a particular favourite of Mr Fuffy, our one-eyed shipping clerk.. see photo)
“I’ve Got Your Number” is a very desirable mid-tempo Rocksteady floor-filling tune.
The other side is “Hot Shot” which is another outing for the “Save A Bread” chord sequence, and is none the worse for that.
CONDITION-WISE I’d rate it as somewhere round about VG.
Both sides play remarkably well (sounding better than VG in fact) but they appear to have been kept in a box with a lot of other sleeveless records. There is ONE tiny dimple on the very edge, which is NOWHERE NEAR THE MUSIC. I reckon that it could be a pressing fault. I don’t think it’s a fag-burn, because it’s so harmless and difficult to see. It plays through and doesn’t sound at all on my (pretty darn good) gear.
You can hear somebody else’s copies of both tunes on You-Tube. Most are taken from CD, but one is from a 45 which sounds pretty much like this one.
It is a holy (but slightly battered) grail.. fill your boots.
