This handsome LP from Decca (ECS 641, English pressing, purple/silver lable, stereo*) features Ruggiero Ricci’s dazzling account of Aram Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto in D minor, recorded with conductor Anatole Fistoulari in the fabled acoustics of London’s Kingsway Hall on 2-3 July 1956.
*Incidentally, this June 1972 Decca Eclipse release was the very first issue of Ricci’s Khachaturian in stereo. Prior to that it had only been available in mono (Decca LXT 5259 and London LL 1537). This recording was produced by Christopher Welan and engineered by Roy Wallace.
Filling out the disc is a captivating rendition of Alexander Glazunov’s Stenka Razin Op. 13, here brought off with unerring mastery by conductor Ernest Ansermet and l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, a recording made at Victoria Hall, Geneva, on 14 May 1954.
The latter recording was produced by James Walker and engineered by Roy Wallace.
The striking cover photo shows Tarn Hows, Mopnk Coniston (Lake District), a viewpoint maintained by The National Trust (photographer unknown). There are informative liner notes (similarly uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. The only real flaw concerns a 2” split to the top edge of the jacket. Otherwise, it would almost appear as new. There are no bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, this is a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
