Special 78rpm Souvenir Record by Pioneer Recording Artist Richard Jose Richard Jose - World-Famous Contra-Tenor - had a noted singing career stretching back to the late 1880's He appeared with Minstrel Companies, including Dockstader's Minstrels... Many Stage appearances followed ("Silver Threads Among The Gold" was the song for which he was most famous.) Richard Jose's commercially recorded output spanned only the years 1903 to 1906 He retired from the stage in 1920
Recorded at MacGregor and Ingram Recording Laboratories This special Souvenir Recorded ca. 1930, in San Francisco, where Mr. Jose lived in retirement. "Silver Threads Among The Gold" / "When You And I Were Young, Maggie"
The record is rather rare... The late Allen Debus, a pioneer artist himself, who co-authored "The Complete Entertainment Discography", was unaware of its existence when the first edition was prepared. It finally appeared in the 2nd edition, which was published years later.
