Description
redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Philips (422 416-1, Dutch pressing, red/silver label, DDD stereo) features legendary pianist Sviatoslav Richter’s magisterial account of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations Op.120, recorded ‘live’ in the warm acoustics of the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam on 17 June 1986.
There are other extent performances of Richter in this work, including a fine one on Praga from the same season, but this version eclipses them all, a truly stunning achievement even in this pianist’s illustrious discography.
There are superlative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket in English (by William Kinderman), in French (by David Cairns), and in German and Italian (by Uwe Kraemer).
This performance was recorded in association with AVRO Broadcast Organisation (artist and repertoire production: Rupert Fäustle / recording producer and sound engineer: Boy Honing). the striking album design was executed by Paul Wiggers.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as mild discoloration and shelfwear. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owner's markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
