Another from my personal collection of over 50,00 Uk albums that I have collected over a period of 45 years or more!. 2006andream presents an early original 1st UK pressing of Robert Calvert studio album "Captain Lockheed and The Starfighters" released in 1974 on the custom UAG labels. This is a review copy that came from the BBC Gramophone Library collection that I purchased about twenty years ago. It has always been stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records. Visually the vinyl looks in un- played in my opinion. I struggle to see and spider traces around the spindle hole. No needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops just beautiful near perfect sound quality and fantastic bassey feel and separation only heard like this on the earliest pressings. Please listen to the recording in the player below. I would grade the audio at Near Mint throughout in my opinion. I don't think that you will find a better sounding vinyl! No Clicks, ticks or pops, silent in between tracks. The Most vibrant copy that I have heard truly amazing!
This is complete with the original lyric insert record sleeve and original 1st issue un-laminated gatefold cover is also in top Near Mint condition throughout and I think that you would struggle to find a better copy of this cover in my opinion!
For me the audio quality has always been my prime interest with vinyl. Audio graded at Near Mint in my opinion! Early 1st pressing! A very rare and scarce album to find on vinyl, especialy in this condition.
Click play below to hear the sample audio of the complete album. Actual recording from the vinyl!

Your browser does not support the audio element.Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters is a 1974 satirical concept album by Robert Calvert, the former frontman of British space-rock band Hawkwind.
It consists of a mixture of songs and comic spoken interludes.
The concept was based on the German Air Ministry's purchase of the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, colloquially known as the Widowmaker.
In German service these planes had a poor safety record, with 262 out of 916 Luftwaffe Starfighters lost in accidents during the aircraft's time in service, which lasted from the early 1960s until the mid-1980s.
Musicians who appeared on the album include members of Hawkwind, The Pink Fairies, Brian Eno (although not credited as Eno), Arthur Brown and Adrian Wagner. The spoken sketches are primarily performed by Calvert, Viv Stanshall and Jim Capaldi.
"Ejection" (coupled with "Catch a Falling Starfighter") was released as a single, although both songs are slightly different versions to those on the album.
"The Widow's Song" was included in the libretto and Calvert had hoped to record it with Nico singing.
It wasn't recorded at the time but it was eventually recorded in 1984 with Calvert's wife Jill Riches on lead vocals and included on the Hawkwind, Friends and Relations Vol.3 compilation.
The album has been re-released in the late 1990s by BGO Records and is currently available on Eclectic Records (ECLCD1056) with bonus tracks.
All songs by Robert Calvert except where stated.

The Vinyl
On visual inspection this looks almost as un played in my opinion. I find it hard to even see a blemish on the playing surface, any that could possibly be seen angled to the light would be sleeve removal scuffs only. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping. Importantly, there are no visual marks that would cause any loud constant clicks/ticks or pops during the play of this vinyl.
The Audio Quality
I have play tested the vinyl two times on two different turntables/systems at very loud volume prior to this listing. Once for you to hear the complete album. (Can be heard in the player above)
The moment that the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious to me that this has barely ever been played at all. Crystal clear and vibrant stunning top audio throughout the play of this vinyl. I would grade the audio at Near as Mint!
Please note! Allowances must be made for these mid eighties pressings. They are notorious for static ticks/crackle in quieter places. I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for very light isolated static type crackle/ticks that might be noticed in quieter places, but not consistent through out the audio. Debrit was noted on the playing surface after play. A constant clean before each play is recommended because this vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 30 years. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static ticks/ crackle. constant cleaning before each play will reduce this and enhance the audio quality.
The Labels
These are the original 1st UK issue custom UAG labels No spider tracescan be seen angled to the light. This looks un- played in my personal opinion!. There is little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round.
The Record Sleeve
This is the original 1st UK issue flimsy paper lyric record sleeve. This is straight and clean. There are no edge splits or tears, just light creasing with age only. The vinyl is always stored separately from the vinyl. This is how I have always stored my records.
The Lyric Inner This is the original paper lyric insert very clean and straight.
The Cover
This is the original 1st issue Un-laminated gatefold cover. This is super clean and straight in appearance. (no barcode) Super clean and straight. No nasty creases to report and no real nasty storage wear is only really noticed if looked for in my opinion. Any edge rubbing is very slight only and not noticed unless looked for in my opinion. I would grade this cover as at least excellent plus to very Near Mint a real beauty.
