The Cure - The Walk 12” EP Promotional Canadian Sire Pressing Autographed and inscribed, “keep dancing, dave! from Robert”
Some twenty+ years ago I was looking through records at the thrift and a lady invited me to look at all her records at home. So her living room was full of boxes of vinyl. Her husband had bought a storage unit for the car parts and was stuck with the other half, all vinyl. There were many promotional and DJ singles and a lot of jazz, most of it Canadian pressings like this one. I was so stoked and trying to downplay it and did not notice the signature, other than there was some writing on the cover. I bought a couple of boxes of great records from her that day but was unable to buy it all. This is one that I have cherished but do not know much about. It has always appeared legit to me, as far as Robert’s signature being exactly as it appears from this time period. The inscription is awesome and his typical lower case handwriting is spot on. It’s got a warmth about it that intrigues me, maybe it was some of Andy’s mushroom tea in the mix, but this is the time period when Robert’s signature was in transition but still held a marginal legibility about it. I have always wanted to know who this Dave character was and what was his angle. I know he liked to remove the inners from all his jazz, many I still own today. I feel as if he was industry related, but perhaps a DJ/ friend. Anyway, here it is, a rad timepiece that has always been one of Dave and my favorite Cure releases.
