Description
Jim Dickinson - Robins / Avengers Batman / Batarang Ardent 106 Memphis Psych Garage 1966
One of the harder to find Ardent records.
Record is a very nice VG+ with no scratches, still in the original brown paper sleeve. Plays great!
Early Ardent label 45 (Ardent 106), issued back when the Batman television series was popular. Produced by the legendary James Luther Dickinson (producer: Big Star, Replacements, Alex Chilton, Jerry Lawler, Lucero, Toots Hibbert, Ronnie Hawkins, Panther Burns… session man: Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Aretha, Flamin' Groovies, Arlo Guthrie, Sam & Dave) who recorded for Sun records with the Jesters, produced this terrific two sider with future wife Mary Lindsay singing the novelty A-side. Jim & Mary Lindsay would go on to marry and have kids - Luther and Cody of the North Mississippi All Stars! The ominous instrumental b-side, features the late great Lee Baker (Mud Boy & the Neutrons, Moloch) on guitar, sounds sort of like a psychedelic Link Wray. Terry Manning also plays, along with members of Ardent group, Lawson and Four More (a Memphis DJ used to introduce them as "lost in the morgue.")
Garage rock enthusiasts would do well to jump on this Memphis music obscurity. Jim Dickinson was the guru of the Memphis scene for over thirty years, and is arguably one of the most important figures in Memphis music history. World Boogie is coming!
