For your consideration are these rare and hard to find 45 records by Rocky Barra. One of the 45's is Rocky And The Continental 4 titled "I Want To Be Your Lucky Star" and backed with "West Side Whizz". This rare 45 is on the Barratone record label #1001. Two of the 45's are just Rocky Barra, and the other is Rocky Barra & The Castle. I purchased these 45's and four sealed Rocky Barra LP's that I will be selling this week. Similar to the sealed LP's, I dont' believe these 45's have been played although there is some debris on them from the sleeves that are beginning to disintegrate. I very rarely sell records but believe they are at least VG+.
The following is interesting information found about the band online; "Barra, the lead singer who also played drums and guitar, described the band's sound as roots rock and rhythm and blues. He and his friends, all graduates of Livonia Franklin High School, were ages 14 and 15 when they began to gain attention in the Detroit area. His father drove them around in a station wagon to play gigs as far away as Ohio and Indiana.Though it was never released, the band recorded what Barra called "a funky version of 'Flamingo Express'" at Motown studios with Marvin Gaye on drums, just months before he had a hit with "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" and went on to become a superstar.Rocky & The Continentals released their own single, "Lucky Star," in 1964 and it received airplay on local radio stations such as CKLW-AM (800) and WXYZ-AM (1270). A year later, the band did a tour backing Brenda Lee during her appearances at Montgomery Ward department stores.During the 1960s, Barra said, the young band shared local stages with national artists such as Ann Margaret, Ray Stevens, Del Shannon and Freddie Cannon, among others."
