The "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" Live! Record Store Day 2024 release was pressed in a limited edition of 2,500 copies. This was a Friday Music release, featuring a 2-LP translucent gold vinyl and a gatefold cover.
In 2019 Byrds co-founders Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman joined forces with superstar Marty Stuart to celebrate 50 years of The Byrds' "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" album. During their sold-out tour, several of the shows were taped. For Record Store Day 2024, Friday Music released the official audio recording—a deluxe, gold vinyl, 2LP limited edition set of Sweetheart Of The Rodeo - 50th Anniversary -Live.
In their song introductions Roger and Chris tell stories and take us through a history of both The Byrds and Sweetheart Of The Rodeo. They include stories of working with Gram Parsons, including The Byrds’ upsetting some at the Grand Old Opry, and Gram & Roger writing Drug Store Truck Driving Man while on tour in the UK.
All the great songs from the epic 1968 release are now presented live and this first-time-ever release includes more Byrds classics like "Mr. Tamborine Man," "Turn Turn Turn" and a rare one-time-only tour performance of "Eight Miles High."
This album is impeccably mastered for vinyl by longtime Byrds fan and friend Joe Reagoso, and will be pressed for the first time anywhere on double translucent gold vinyl in a stunning gatefold cover, featuring the rare Jo Mora artwork elements from the 1968 Byrds masterwork, coupled with new interview and liner notes with Roger, Chris and Marty. Truly a sensational recording and a stellar document of one of the greatest tours of our time.
