You may be wondering what Okkervil River and Roky Erickson have in common. The legendary 13th Floor Elevators frontman and fellow Austin, TX natives Okkervil River first and foremost have geography to thank for their collaboration, but there has to be something more. Released in 2010, this was Erickson's first album in 15 years and is primarily an acoustic affair with guitars, piano and, of course, the Okkervill gang as backing band. This LP sounds like Johnny Cash's later work (i.e. Cash's 'American' series) combined with the at times twisted imagery of Roky's lyrics. Along with Will Sheff's (of Okkervil River) production direction, a catalog of 60 songs written over the course of a few decades was sifted through to pick a dozen for this brilliant album. With usual confidence and songwriting prowess, True Love Cast Out All Evil is a return to form that every Roky and 13th Floor Elevators' fan knew he was capable of constructing. Released on ANTI records, this LP has never been played. I bought this LP new back in 2010 and never listened to it. Cover is in stunning near mint minus condition. You will not be disappointed.
