1964 UK Mono Decca LK 4605 – Very Early 4:06 Pressing – Rare “Mona” MacNeill Flipback Sleeve
A very early original 1964 UK mono pressing of The Rolling Stones’ legendary debut album, issued on Decca LK 4605.
This is a particularly desirable early pressing with the rare XARL 6271-2A / XARL 6272-3A matrix combination and the full 4:06 version of “Tell Me (You’re Coming Back)”.
The earliest 1964 pressings contained the incorrect 2:52 version of “Tell Me”. The 4:06 version appeared on subsequent pressings, with the 2A/3A combination representing a very early example of this corrected version.
The record is pressed on the classic red/silver unboxed Decca deep-groove label, characteristic of the early UK issues.
The combination of the 2A/3A matrices and early “Mona” configuration is a particularly interesting variant for collectors. Examples of this exact 2A/3A matrix combination are documented among the early 1964 issues.
Rare “Mona” MacNeill Flipback Cover
The record comes in the highly sought-after early MacNeill Press laminated flipback sleeve, featuring the original “Mona” track listing.
“Mona” was an early printing error for track A4, which was subsequently corrected to “I Need You Baby”.

CONDITION
Labels: A1Z EX+
The record labels are in superb condition, with no wear or writing and only a few very light spindle marks. It is clear that the record has been played very little and has been exceptionally well cared for.
Visual:EX+
The vinyl is in absolutely BRILLIANT condition. It has no scratches, only two or three very light hairlines, no scuff marks, and just a very few extremely light paper scuffs, visible only under direct light. The record retains its original “just pressed” appearance and still shines like new.
Sound Quality:EX
The sound is superb. The record has clearly been played only a limited number of times and appears to have been handled and played with great care, most likely on a high-quality turntable and cartridge. It plays beautifully from start to finish, with no pops, skips, sticking or jumps, and barely any crackle at all. There is only an extremely low level of background noise in the run-out grooves and between tracks, but none of it is audible during the music. The sound quality is simply outstanding, with no distortion or noticeable groove wear. This is truly a magnificent copy.

The ultra-rare first pressing of the “MacNeill” record, featuring the iconic “Mona” laminated flipback double cover, is in very good overall condition and represents a truly desirable example.
The laminated front cover has a beautiful glossy finish, and the photograph has retained its bright, vivid colours. There is only a very light record impression and no writing or annotations. The only flaw is a tiny repaired chip on the edge of the opening section — it is extremely small and barely extends beyond the white border.
The corners are intact, with no serious creasing, and the spine is also fully intact, with the lettering clearly legible.
Unfortunately, there is some creasing in the lower right corner, but the opening edge itself is perfectly straight, with virtually no colour wear or paint flaking.
Even the unlaminated back cover is in excellent condition, with no significant dirt, staining or scuffing.
Overall, a very attractive and genuinely rare first pressing, with only minor imperfections consistent with its age.

Clean & white where it should be with a faint disc impression from storage and a few soft but no writing, tears or splits to any seam.
