Rare Stones, “Sticky Fingers” album, early original UK 1971 stereo LP

Includes the “Andy Warhol THIS PHOTOGRAPH MAY NOT BE.. ETC.” knickers inner cover.

Lack of space has forced me to sell my vinyl collection from way back when...

(Unfortunately, it’s taking me forever!) 

This auction is of a very early 1st press “Sticky Fingers” stereo LP album, UK version.

It is the original, top loading, zippered double cover, heavy vinyl disc and card insert, set.

The cover concept is by Andy Warhol and the “Tongue Lick” logo is by John Pasche.

This is the Stones first album on their own, Rolling Stones Records, label and a really rare treat.

These early albums had a blackened zip on the front, outer cover.

The run-out groove carries stamped catalogue refs and  hand scribed identifiers but no stampers.

The zip opens to partially reveal a photo of a man in the Andy Warhol  knickers.

The card insert has the Stones photo with the “Tongue Lick” tracks/credits on the back.

Such a good, complete and early version is becoming scarce and much sought after.

AUDIO

Grade Exc to VG+. Great... All tracks play through excellently, with the exception of Side #1, Track #3, “Wild Horses”. This has a few, very minor, clicks towards the end, in the quiet bit and I would grade it as VG+. Other than that, the disc is clear, excellent stereo vinyl sound.

DISC VISUAL

Grade Exc to VG+. The disc is very clean, warp free and retains its deep glossy, heavy vinyl, black sheen. There are few wispy hairlines. There is a scuff on Side #1, towards the end of Track #3, “Wild Horses” as detailed in AUDIO - please see photo.

The labels on both sides are very clean, bright and without any markings or writing. The spindle hole is tight...!

PACKAGING – EXTRAS

Grade Exc, VG+ to VG. The top loading, matte card covers, zippered outer/solid inner, are intact. There is slight creasing on the top, centre right side of the buckle opening and zip-fly area. The front, lower right hand side, is faintly stained. The edges are all true and the edge titling is clearly legible.

The black zip is fully functioning and securely attached to the front, outer cover – please see photo.

The white sleeve is intact and is the plain original, “MADE IN ENGLAND”, “PATENT NO 1,125,555,”.

The “Tongue Lick” photo card/track and credits list, is excellent – there is a light imprint of the disc’s circumference, on the tongue side, across the top right corner. The photo is perfect.

GRADING

The grading system I have used is based on UK record mags as follows:–

MINT

Un-played item. The vinyl is in brand new condition, no surface marks or deterioration in audio quality. The cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT (Exc)

The vinyl is shiny, with few signs of having been played but with no appreciable lessening of audio quality. The packaging and extras may have negligible wear.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)

The vinyl is still be shiny but may have a few light marks, with very little lessening of audio quality. Light wear and tear on the packaging or extra items.

VERY GOOD (VG)

The vinyl has been played many times, is still shiny and displays no major deterioration in audio quality. There are noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the packaging or extra items.

GOOD (G)

The vinyl has been played to such an extent that audio quality has deteriorated noticeably, there are mild scratches. The packaging or extra items, suffer from folding and scuffing of edges, with spine splits.

FAIR (F)

The vinyl is no longer shiny and has been played so much that the audio quality has deteriorated very noticeably. The packaging or extra items, suffer from severe folding and scuffing of edges, with spine splits.
