Description
THE ROLLING STONES - 'THE ROLLING STONES'
This early pressing of their debut album dates from mid-1964 and bears the very first label used on this LP: Decca LK.4605
The deep-grooved unboxed label has “Mona” listed as the 4th track which was quickly changed "I Need You Baby"
"Honest I Do" is credited to 'Hurran and Calvert' and the publisher is 'Cromwell Music'
Matrix numbers: XARL 6271-2A & XARL 6272-5A
Stamper codes: 1/I & 1/G
Vinyl weight: 144g
The disc is housed within a front laminated, bi-flipback 'MacNeill Press' printed cover
This scarce 2nd printing has the corrected 'Honest I Do' in the track-listing, but OMITS the 'MONO' indicator & catalogue number in the upper right corner
This copy also comes with its original poly-lined inner-sleeve.
CONDITION
Disc
Labels: EXCELLENT
Both are clean & bright with some light spindle trails, mostly around the side 2 centre hole.
Visual: VERY GOOD +
Both playing surfaces are very clean and retain a strong deep-gloss shine. Apart from some harmless light/wispy hairlines visible beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp, there is little surface wear of any significance.
Sound Quality: VERY GOOD +
Despite having been played a number of times, the sound quality on this early pressing is impressive. My playcheck detected a little low-level vinyl background and some minor playwear on the innermost tracks but no clicks, pops or indeed any other audible distractions throughout this great sounding disc.
Cover: FAIR/GOOD
This rare cover is tired but fully intact. There are numerous wrinkles to the front panel and discolouration to the rear panel. However, it is free from any tears, writing or missing paper and both seams & the spine are unstressed & unsplit.
Inner-sleeve: VERY GOOD
