Rory Gallagher ORIG OZ LP Sinner & Saint EX '75 Blues Rock Polydor 2383315
Rory Gallagher
Sinner and saintOriginal OZ LP released in 1975 on Polydor Records. Cat: 2383315.
As is often the case when an artist changes labels and then scores a hit, the industry moguls at Polydor records decided to make one last buck off of Rory Gallagher. Just after Against the Grain hit and got significant airplay, Polydor released this compilation of material from Gallagher's first two albums. As those two discs were relatively unknown in the U.S., this was actually a good move for both Gallagher and the label, and the songs "Crest of a Wave" and "I Fall Apart" both got some airplay and raised interest in the rest of Gallagher's catalog. It is to the label's credit that they chose their material well and resisted the temptation to put the lighter material on one side and the ear-popping stuff on the other. This disc flows naturally and showcases the best material from two albums, and is a very respectable Rory Gallagher release."
