A gem from my personal collection.



Yes indeed, that's us backstage with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson on Rush's recent tour which made it through town recently, their first appearance in 24 years due to a nasty encounter with a local concert promoter while on their Signals tour. Interesting is that the show took place about a week after the bands original drummer, John Rutsey passed away.



We thought it would be intersting to take a copy of the original version of their first album as a tribute to John, and re-unite his image and musical contribution with his old bandmates. They didn't say anything but you could tell both Alex and Geddy were a little moved by the thought and dished out some solidly impressive handshakes for two guys who should have been protecting their fingers like 20 little President-Elects.



We didn't get the sleeve signed, we were told the guys don't sign, which is complete malarkey as you can plainly see black felt sharpies hanging around the necks of both Alex and Geddy, I think their tour manager was just yanking our chain by telling us not to ask for an autograph. Of course these guys sign, they're CANADIAN and nicer in person than they needed to be! It's not like asking Alanis Morrisette for a signature and getting ignored, the guys had their own writing utensils so you know they were ready to go. The smiles on the faces of both Alex and Geddy are the real thing, not just for the camera! For real!!!



Greetings kids, I just found a second copy of Rush's first album on the bands own MOON label in the original shrink, I can't justify owning 2 when others who are worthy have none so I'm making the one we're holding in the photo above available.



The details: original pressing of self titled RUSH on MOON label, #MN 100.

This is the original pressing with the RED lettering on the sleeve, not the pink lettering that can be found on the subsequent Mercury and Anthem pressings of the album which are much easier to find.



There is no writing on the sleeve, some slight paper loss on the front at the 4 o'clock position, some slight discoloration which the camera either didn't want to capture or totally magnified in the shot of the MN 100 refernce number.



Not much in the department of ring wear to report thankfully. A nice flat sleeve with no seam splits.... yay!!!



The album shows some wear as can be expected, nothing inflected by a person off their meds, just typical signs of being played by an average record consumer. I spun it on two different tables and the snap-crackle-pop was less than anticipated, no skips or reasons to tear out precious strands of hair.



Rush on Moon is more of a show piece than a daily driver, for that you can play the Merc or Anthem pressings and stare deeply into the deep bright crimson of the Moon sleeve and pretend you're playing the rarest variety of this seminal Canadian power trio's debut. Have you heard it? For years I thought there was SIX guys in the band, it was only by the time Hemispheres came out that I realized all that sound came from 3 players.

I don't really have to type any more do I? If you're reading this you know what the album is and the place it holds in the catalog of greatest Canadian albums of all-time.

It's time for this original pressing to find it's way back to a new home!
