Rush - Not Fade Away (Moon Records) (MN 001) NO STAMP - RARE HOLY GRAIL

Rare as rare can be. Before Rush was the band that pulls stadium crowds on tour, they were not able to find a label to sign them. As a result their promotion company SRO started the Moon Label to release their first single and first album. The production on this 45 was limited to 1000 pieces. Making this one of the MOST sought after Rush collectibles available.

The vinyl is graded at VG+ and has been test played to ensure grading is indeed accurate. There is what appears to be on the label an erased name on the Side 1: Not Fade Away side. (See Photos)

It is enclosed in a white paper sleeve. To the best of my knowledge this was the original paper sleeve. The sleeve is in great condition (See Photos).

Moon Records is a Canadian record publishing company established in 1973 after Rush and their SRO management company run by Ray Danniels were unable to find a record label interested in signing them. Moon Records served as an outlet for the band's first single, "Not Fade Away", and self-entitled debut album Rush. Moon was distributed by London Records of Canada.[1]

After the success of Rush, the band was offered a two record deal with the Polygram Group and signed with Polygram's Mercury Records in 1974. Moon Records folded as a label and transformed in 1974 from an independent record label to a music production company. Anthem Records would become Rush's label in Canada.

Neil Peart of Rush, who joined the band after its Moon Records period, said about the experience of releasing the debut of the band:

"When we started no record company would touch us, and the only way we could get a record released was by putting it out ourselves on an independent label, which is pretty pathetic when you think about us being the biggest band Canada has produced. It makes you a little bit cynical about the whole thing."

This piece comes from a Rush collection of 300+ records. It has been maintained in a mylar sleeve since purchase and not played by the collector. This is your chance to own a piece of Rush history!

Our grading standards are as follows:

SS = Still factory sealed. A Record that has never been opened and is still sealed in the original factory shrink wrap.

NM- = Near mint. Our highest grade for an opened record. The record may only have been played once or twice, or the previous owner was very meticulous in how they handled it. Vinyl is extra clean and shiny with virtually no signs of wear. Cover is also very clean appearing and well preserved.

VG++ = Only slight signs of wear; still very clean, with a few very light surface marks which won't distract from the sound. Cover also has only slight wear and will still be in strong collectible condition. This grade should still satisfy most demanding collectors.

VG+ = Shows some signs of being used, but has still been well cared for. It may have light surface wear and a little record noise at times such as during soft passages. Overall it should still play well. Cover may have some wear or light ring wear but does not have any serious damage or defects.

VG = A more used record with some overall wear and light marks in the vinyl. There should be no skips while playing the record. Cover will have some wear, seam wear, ring wear, or a price sticker.

VG- (VG Minus) = We normally don't offer this poor condition, but some titles are very difficult to find in any condition. It will have some scratches or overall wear, and might play with a lot of noise. The cover would have heavy wear, ring wear, perhaps some tearing or splitting as well.
