Saint Etienne's final studio album, International, closes a remarkable chapter for the initially London trio.
The record follows last year's ambient intention The Night; after 35 years of friendship and making music, International now takes on a collaborative and classic songs-based route, inviting Confidence Man, Vince Clarke, Nick Heyward, Paul Hartnoll and Erol Alkan into the fold. What yields is a recorded rout of collective expression, the album equivalent of a going-away-forever party. Tracks such as 'Brand New Me' and 'Sweet Melodies' recall the band's classic house-pop flair, while the closing song 'Last Time' offers a heartfelt farewell after a multi-decadal career.
