Amazing. An unbelievable piece: What we have here is an unheard-of  ACETATE of this obscure Sam Cooke single (which never charted and disappeared without a trace soon after the release). While many acetates contain alternate or demo- versions of known, later released songs, and while it is possible that this particular acetate contains different versions of the two tracks, please don’t take our word that it does (believe it or not, this is the first time we hear this song – because the original single is the only way to hear this song and because the record flopped big time (as far as we know, the single never charted) , the opportunity never arose to familiarize with this particular track.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS ACETATE APPARENTLY NEVER HAD A CUSTOM COVER;  THIS ITEM WILL BE SHIPPED IN A PLAIN, GENERIC [WHITE] CARDBOARD COVER AND IN YELLOW INNER SLEEVE. ACETATES AND REFERENCE PRESSINGS ARE RARELY – IF EVER – FOUND IN CUSTOM (STOCK) COVERS. THE GENERIC COVER IS NOT SEPARATELY GRADED BUT IS IN FINE STATE OF PRESERVATION OVERALL.

While this acetate is in a decent state of preservation (ABOUT GOOD+) , we do expect bidders to understand that the aluminum-based, shellac-coated acetates can never be graded by using the exact, same stringent standards used by collectors for modern long-play, hi-fi LPs or singles. The buyer – if not familiar with acetate (reference) recordings - should be cautioned that these discs were intended for brief, limited use only; they were meant to be played only a few times, then discarded or destroyed. In view of this, the surface layer of the disc is manufactured in such a manner that it will wear off pretty quickly, even under normal conditions -- and specially if not handled with due care. Each subsequent playing increases wear and tear of the disc’s surface layer and diminishes the disc’s playability.

This acetate is NOT in mint or near mint condition; two small bits of shellac (surface layer) on the disc are missing on side 2 (“I belong to your heart”); one piece is outside the groove area and does not affect playing, while the other is at the very end of the song and will probably cause a few clicks and pops
