Sante Palumbo - Jazz alive in the gallery
Italian private pressing, SI 0012 (1975)
Top rare double Lp by the Sante Palumbo group, recorded live in Milan at the BAR SI and privately pressed in a very limited quantity. Eight very long tracks (from 8 to 11 minutes) led by Sante Palumbo at Fender rhodes piano with Giorgio Baiocco (tenor sax, flute), Marco Ratti (electric bass), Vittorio Boi (electric bass), Giancarlo Pillot (drums) and Mauricio Chiappeta of Mayafra combo at the congas. The whole record is just amazing, including my long time personal favourite POP AT BAR SI', basically a 9 minutes long psych prog jazz funk monster with heavy funky drums, mad progressive Fender rhodes, hypnotic flute and funky congas. Psychedelic flute\rhodes\congas interlude at 3'30" of the clip, followed by (at 4'55") a short but killer hip-hop beats hard-hitting break! POP BLUES and DIP are both very long and in the same vein of POP AT BAR SI' but slightly less psychdelic and more soulful. KOBAJO is mental 9 minutes long furious hard-bop jazz with a stellar tenor sax solo by Giorgio Baiocco! More amazing jazz on version of John Coltrane's ANOTHER BLUES. To complete, killer versions of AUTUMN LEAVES and GEORGIA ON MY MIND! Listen!
